FEATURED // GREEN WEDDING SHOES / Allman Brothers Inspired Wedding

I still can't believe the job that I have. A job that celebrates love, creativity, challenge, and memories all in one.

The inspiration for this session was provided by the Allman Brothers, of which many of you Georgian followers are probably well acquainted with. While dreaming up this "wedding", we decided to go with one of the Allman Brothers album titles, Where It All Begins, as the theme.

The catering, provided by A Perfect Pear, features peanuts and Coca-Cola, the “SkyDog” (an Allman Brothers staple, featuring chili and jalapeño coleslaw), vegetable crudité ”shots”, meatloaf+mashed potato bites, and tarragon-scented deviled eggs with shrimp.

All of the clothes are 70s-inspired thrift store finds – perfect for a couple on a budget!

My personal favorites from the session are the yellow 70s Bronco, the petal-covered “Where It All Begins” banner for the ceremony, and the opportunity to shoot the softly-lit dance floor in open moonlight.

The session was held at Plantation Farms, a venue that I've frequented for a while now--and one that I am so blessed to get to work with so often! This was the first opportunity we utilized their airstream, rock-bed, and over-sized trailer with hanging bulb lights! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. There is always something new to capture there!

The cake, an art-inspired 70s piece, was done by the fabulous LisaMae Cakes.

Mad-props go to Julia's Poppies Design for creating the INCREDIBLE invitation design. I mean--those colors, flowers, font--everything was just perfect!

Last, but certainly not least, our gorgeous bride was accented just right by the incredible hand of Jennifer Horton Makeup. Brides--I cannot emphasize enough how much of a difference professional make-up brings to your pictures! Soften skin? Done. Cover blemishes? Done. Accentuate best features? Done. Definitely stop by and give Jennifer Horton some love!

A NEAT FACT:
The couple who modeled for this shoot actually got married last weekend! I had the honor of capturing their lovely Savannah wedding and I am so excited to share it with you all! Be on the lookout for their Sneak Peek this weekend!

FEATURED // VISUAL SUPPLY CO. // MY VSCO FORMULA

I was honored today to be featured on the VSCO Journal as a VSCO Film artist.

First things first, head on over, check them out, and show them some love!
(I'm convinced that among several avid supporters, I might still be their biggest fan).

In response to the feature, I've received several inquiries from other VSCO users as to how I processed the highlighted session.

Although my editing process [naturally] differs from session to session, my base preset is Fuji 400H. It's really just a matter of preference, but I fell in love the instant I used the tool. If you went down the list of my favorite artists, majority of them would be Medium-Format film users who use Fuji 400H film (go-figure!). I love the hues... love the greens, the crispness, the grain.

To preface my "VSCO FORMULA", I have to emphasize that the number one rule is to
get it right in-camera.
For me, this means: [1] Exposing for the Shadows, [2] Back-lighting when possible (if that's the look I'm going for, which it usually is... the blown out sky, dreamy haze, soft glow), [3] Taking caution with my composition (I want my photos to have as much impact as possible, which means I need to be thinking about how the viewer will look at my photo--whether it's how they relate to it, what strikes them first, what strikes them the most... you get the point).

There are several other factors that you need to concern yourself with during the shoot that will make your session all the more moving. Connect with your subject. Have a "story" in mind. Slow down. If a pose/angle isn't working, stop shooting it. FIND THE LIGHT.

Enough with my Soapbox 101, here's the VSCO Formula I used for the images featured today.
Enjoy!

FIRST FEATURE! // THE WEDDING CHICKS

Before you read this post, I want you to click on the FAVORITES tab and notice the first "favorite" listed. Note the goal underneath the logo. Next, click on The Wedding Chicks logo for a little hint at the big news (as if the title of this post was not enough!)

Dear friends, I am ecstatic. The Wedding Chicks has been, by far, my most frequently visited wedding blog. They feature the most creative, elegant weddings, in addition to offering brides a plethora of resources (many of them for free!) I set my goals pretty high at the first of the year, and told myself that I would do what it takes to be featured on the blog. On one hand, the experience of visiting their site and seeing MY work (eek!) is absolutely surreal; And on the other hand, I wish I could pull back the curtain of "photography magic" and show you just how much hard work it has taken to get to this place.

I pray this is the first of many, many dreams fulfilled as I continue on this creative adventure. My heart is overflowing with gratitude and excitement!

In celebration of this landmark for me, I am offering TWO
DREAM BIG GIVE-AWAYS
(The FREE CREATIVE SESSION will be offered to all clients. The BLUSHING BRIDE GIVE-AWAY will be offered to all Future Brides (2011-2012) who have booked or are interested in booking The Photography of Haley Sheffield).
