Ashton and Ricky's Oakhurst Farm wedding offered more versatility than a photographer could dream of. Oakhurst is now one of my absolute favorite venues to shoot at. Filled with gardens, cobblestone paths, weeping willows, a glistening pond, and a beautiful ceremony and reception area (see what I mean?), this venue was water to my thirsty artist's heart from the moment I arrived.
To add to the splendor, Ashton and Ricky are some of the sweetest people I have ever met. It was raining on and off during their [outdoor] wedding day--an experience I can totally relate to--and both of them seemed to have such a peace, yet still maintained a strong presence of elation as they awaited the "Big Moment."
There are several funny stories to be told from this day--stories that fellow photographers can especially relate to. Because this is a blog, I like to interject some personal experience every now-and-then, so for jest, I'd like to share with you the adventure that started my day:
I live about 2.5 hours away from Oakhurst Farms. The morning of the wedding, I realize that my license plate is expired. Still having plenty of time before arrival, I decide to go to the tag office (smart choice) to get a new plate. About five minutes before I head out the door (equipment packed and ready for the road), it starts POURING. I mean, cats and dogs--no, elephants and hippos--pouring. Expired license... not an option. Waiting for the rain to subside... not an option. I decide to run for it, arriving at the doors of the tag office soaking wet [jumped-in-the-pool-with-your-clothes-on wet], only to discover I'd left my registration in the car. (At this point I begin to laugh at myself. One of those moments where so many things are against you that self-loathing is no longer an option... every added incident is just plain funny now.) Getting a second dose of the "hippopotamus rain", I get my registration, get a new license plate, and head for LaGrange, GA... soaked. So, I crank the A.C. and decide that I have two hours to dry off before meeting the clients. True story. I didn't catch the flu. I did purchase a new [cute] pair of rain boots (which came in handy during the ceremony!). And I did have a lot of good laughs to start out my day (as did the employees in the tag office, I'm sure!). Pictures of myself really would have added to this story. Sadly, I still need to purchase a normal digital camera to document my everyday life. I could go on about my directional impairment, changing socks in the middle of the mall, trying to enter the wrong hotel door (don't ask) for about 5 mintues... just a funny, funny day! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
In addition to their wedding day pictures, I have added my favorites of their After Session photos. Because it was raining on and off on the Big Day, Ashton didn't get to utilize all of the marvelous locations at Oakhurst. We decided to take a morning (a nearly perfect morning, at that) to capture open fields, dirt roads, and blossoming garden pictures.
Ashton and Ricky, I have nothing but great memories from your wedding day--start to finish. I pray that these pictures allow you to relive the joy and excitement of that day! You are an incredible duo--bringing smiles to everyone around you. I wish you the absolute best first year of marriage, as well as the many years of happiness to come. (Psalm 139:5)
